“There are places in the heart that do not yet exist; suffering has to enter in for them to come to be.”
– Lent Bloy
Suffering does seem to expand the heart. You may not realize it, but during the painful process God is creating. There are new pockets of sympathy and deeper canals of affection. He is digging out wells of compassion and plowing trenches of mercy. One day you wake up and realize you feel more, you love deeper, your care for others has doubled, and mercy seems to be pumping through your veins. It’s as though your heart has added dimensions: it has deepened, lengthened, and expanded.
